Hell's Kitchen Flea Market on AOL.com's Ellen pages

Flea_marketellen_degeneres Hell's Kitchen Flea Market got a nice write-up on AOL's "Ellen Across America" webpages for The Ellen Degeneres Show.

Since the city's beloved Annex Flea Market moved from Chelsea to the Hell's Kitchen hood a few years ago, history has come full circle. From the 1870s-1930s, the area was home to Paddy's Market, a stretch of concrete where it's said city folks could buy anything from "bedroom slippers to beans, from eels to end tables." Today, an entire street block is cordoned off for [up to] 170 vendors.... Paddy would be proud.

NY Social Diary article on Hell's Kitchen Flea Market

Larissainfur New York Social Diary is a major website for the Big Apple's high society set. Anita Sarko has written a wonderful article about Hell's Kitchen Flea Market, complete with photos.

Anita has some serious shopping successes, especially for vintage clothing:

Fortunately or UNfortunately, before I could get a grip on my senses (and wallet), I was furiously haggling with a bundled-up woman over the price of a stunning burgundy long-sleeved floor-length 70% cashmere 30% silk Malo dress and vest combo.

Definitely make this flea market a part of your back-to-school itinerary. And, happily, there’s a built-in excuse for losing control of your purse strings: “The Devil made me do it!”

You go, Anita! :D

To the barricades! Paris flea market vendor up in arms.

Afpmehdi_fedouach FleaSpeech was surprised to discover that the Duke of Westminster, Britain's third-wealthiest person, came to own the famous Saint-Ouen flea market in Paris in 2005. Now he may be attempting to raise the rents!

Parisians have revolted against the Duke of Westminster after he raised rents to levels that they claimed would destroy one of the city's most celebrated attractions.... To mark the start of a World Antiques Fair – held once every two years — up to 400 stall-holders wore black T-shirts bearing the slogan "Your flea-market is in danger".
.....
Traders accuse the duke of wanting to transform the traditional flea-market into a luxury market like the Louvre des Antiquaires, an expensive antiques arcade in central Paris. In a statement, Grosvenor Continental Europe said that "only a few tenants who failed to respect their contractual obligations have received letters of non-renewal".

A cluck-cluck clock?

Pecking_hen_clock Flea markets can be great places to take kids because they get a chance to see objects from the past. While it's not an antique per se, this adorable vintage clock is a flea market find of Flea Market Studio. It cost $2 and the hen moves like it's pecking at the ground.

Buying an object like this clock for a child gives him or her an entertaining (and in this case, practical and functional!) glimpse of an earlier time's aesthetic.
